Proposing inquiry teaching, which trying to change students’ passive learning into active inquiry, is one of the ideas of new curriculum reform, while the process of building model is just the process of collecting and processing information, the process of using hands and brain and the process of analysis and problem solving. The model method, which senior high school students must master, is one of the scientific methods. It can not only cultivate students’ creative spirit, practical abilities, collaboration, but also contributing to the training of students’ abstract thinking.This study, both in theory and practice, has a certain reference value for the physical model instruction in high school biological. Because of the rare research of physical model concerning of the research model of high school biology in China, especially for rural high school.According to high school compulsory modules of PEP edition and four classes of fresh students of Xunyi senior school in Xianyang, Shaanxi province, the research aim at the applied research of building a physical model for senior biological teaching in the following three aspects:First, defining the concept of model and physical model based on literature research method, determining the classification criterion, and classification of physical models of high school compulsory modules of PEP edition. Second, summarizing the steps and principles of physical model, and optimizing building physical model of the teaching strategies, and illustrate the application process of physical model in new lessons and review through three teaching examples respectively. And especially through two teaching example of mitosis and meiosis, explain building the same prototype by using different kinds of physical model. Third, detect whether students have positive changes or not in cognition for scientific model, confidence and interest in learning biology before and after the teaching practice through questionnaire.The study found that, teaching activities of building physical model can help students understand scientific models and modeling methods and promote learning style in a certain extent.The survey data before and after the test were measured by Spss19. The results of T-test showed that teaching activities of building physical model can enhance students’confidence and increase interest in learning biology. Although the study has achieved certain achievements preliminarily, there are still many deficiencies. Hope the study can provide reference for senior high school biology teaching.
