University students are the successors of the socialist construction as well as the backbone and main forces of our society in the future. Therefore, universities are the main front of strengthening and improving domestic political and ideological education. Currently, university students are appearing many new group characteristics in the rapidly changing social environment, which demands the political and ideological education progress and innovate with time to ensure its effectiveness. Moreover, the progress and innovation of university students’political and ideological education is claimed by its nature and law, the goal of achieving comprehensive human development and its theory system construction. One of the most important parts of university students’political and ideological education is its method, which restricts its actual effect. Thence, method innovation is special and significant in the university students’political and ideological education.The positive psychology is a new rose international psychology ideological trend in late20th century to the early21st century which criticizes that traditional psychology has over focused on the psychological problems and mental illness of human,and proposes that traditional psychology should turn to face the potential inherent strength and virtue of human to promote personal and social development, happiness of people and academic balance in both negative and positive aspects of psychology.This thesis is consisted of four chapters. Chapter One is the introduction of this thesis, in which the purpose and significance of the study, research survey, methods and ideas are introduced, and the concepts of positive psychology and the method of university students’ political and ideological education are defined. In Chapter Two, the positive psychology’s development context, basic content and main method is expounded to lay the foundation for comparison and reference in later chapters. Chapter Three is mainly about comparison between the methods of current domestic university students’political and ideological education and positive psychology, both similarity and different points in their focal points, communication patterns and approaches are juxtaposed. Chapter Four is the most important part of this thesis,in which three kinds of progression and innovation that based on positive psychology are advanced. Firstly, students’positive emotion should be excite when political and ideological education is carrying on, which contains the promotion of positive sentiment, ability in experience "Flow" and reduction of negative sentiment by using the five stage therapy. Secondly, Shaping positive personality that could well integrated with socialist core values by discovering students’ positive personality characteristics, bringing their high self-esteem personality up and developing realistic optimism. Thirdly, building both material and mental positive environment to promote the political and ideological education imperceptibly is a unignorable method.
