Coupled with the rapid development of Chinese economy, while people enjoythe material life, the need of spiritual life such as art and aesthetics becomes the goalof people. Under this circumstance, there has been the phenomenon of “piano craze”in our building the Well-off Society. The rising piano education along with Chineseeconomy development led to a series of practical problems, the interest in the pianostudy is one of most intractable problems. There has been such an opinion that only interest could let people learn the pianowell; interest plays a decisive role in children’s piano study. But this is not the fact. The author does not think that interest plays a decisive role in the early stages ofchildren’s piano study; on the contrary, the decisive role is mainly played by“compulsion”.Children’s physical and psychological feather determines their unsteady interestin the piano study. In addition, the piano study is a very long and hard process, whichgoes beyond the conscious work for a child to be able to do. So, interest cannotmaintain alone the whole process of piano study, compulsion must participate intochildren’s piano study.Interest and compulsion does not contradict each other, but they depend on eachother and can convert mutually. We should lose no opportunity to convert compulsioninto interest of higher level to realize the transformation of interest and compulsionand interest, and let interest return back to children’s piano study. The paper is divided into six parts except for introduction and conclusion. Thereason of subject choice, research significance, research object and researchdevelopment are discussed in the introduction. The basic concepts of children’s pianostudy are considered in the first chapter. Survey on and analysis of actual situation ofchildren’s piano study is made in the second chapter. The roles of interest andcompulsion in children’s piano study are discussed in the third chapter. In the fourthand fifth chapters the author puts forward that the role of compulsion is veryimportant, but the use of compulsion should be cautious and let interest return back to children’s piano study. The inseparable relation of interest and compulsion is exploredin the sixth chapter. The conclusion is about the outline of whole paper.
