Imagination as an important way of thinking by the human mind, is the bridge tothe world of history. As we all know, learning and teaching history never fail to applyimagination. Imagination is the brain process of image reconstruction, a psychologicalprocessof creating a new image. The Historical Imagination is different from literatureand art imagination, it is not arbitrary. Historical Imagination should respect thehistorical fact as the premise, and with the real historical data as the basis, placeoneself in the corresponding historical times, and strive to objective, and do our bestto be close to history. As British history education experts Peter lee mentioned:"TheHistorical Imagination is not in isolation and in optional free, it must ultimately andfirmly together with evidence. Some of the important points of imagination are toactually put forward the idea of looking for evidence, and the certain evidence."Ordinary high school history curriculum is based on knowledge of history as thecarrier, compared with other courses, history course has a unique "historicity".History knowledge in history course has features of temporality, the past, particurityand comprehensive. These features can be said to be those never belong to othersubjects. They are particular, and these characteristics also determines differencesexist between the history courses and other disciplines, and at the same time alsodetermines the imagination that the study and implementation in historical coursesrequired. A process of learning history is the period from feeling history toaccumulate history, again by history to understanding the historical accumulation, thatis to say, it is a form of human thought. In the process of thinking, because the objectof thinking has been done. It will be very difficult to master the knowledge of history,and the development history thinking, without the Historical Imagination.Historical Imagination also plays an important role in the process of students’development. The training and development of students’ Historical Imagination willhelp to improve the students’ learning interest in history, is beneficial to thedevelopment of students’ memory, understanding and the logic thinking abilityas well.It is a very important task and one of the goals in the high school history teaching todevelop students’ reasonable imagination. As a historical education worker, it must bevery clear that"students’ imagination is often the power driving them to pursueknowledge of history, and the act of ignoring the power of imagination will be theblock for students continuing to learn the course of history". This paper is divided into four parts. The first part focuses on connotation ofHisrotical Imagination, discussing what the History Imagination is, the characteristicsof history and the similarities and differences between the Hisrotical Imagination andLiterary Imagination. The second part to strengthen the necessity of the cultivation ofthe Historical Imagination and its feasibility. The third part focuses on the ways totrain the Historical Imagination in the teaching of the history, mainly the factors needto be paid attention to, the strategy of the training and the requirements for teacherstraining students’ History Imagination. The fourth part will be the comprehensiveapplyication of the above theories, combined with the middle school teaching practice.There will be some case study by selecting some cases in history teaching.
