Under the new curriculum reform, as the 《compulsory education biologycurriculum standard (2011edition)》 published, the biology textbooks forcompulsory education schools which were authorized by the Chinese ministry ofeducation are also compiled and published. The new PEP edition junior high schoolbiology textbooks look brand-new, biology textbook illustrations increased obviously,color is rich. In an intuitive way,textbook illustrations describe the biology concept,principle, process and so on. So illustration teaching will help students understandingand remembering of knowledge. Textbook illustrations are gradually as an importantteaching resources by some teachers. But, facing more and more rich textbookillustrations, how to distinguish classification illustrations, applied to exert itsfunctions in the teaching and improve students’ ability of reading, are worth furtherstuding.At the same time, nearly three years of junior high school biology education inYunnan province level testing some questions related to textbook illustrations andoccupy a certain score. Obviously, students’ reading ability of illustrations willdirectly influence the final school level test scores. Teachers are more necessary tocultivate the students’ consciousness and ability of reading, make its can accuratelygrasp the textbook illustrations information. To study the examination that containillustrations and textbook illustrations teaching, is a good way to help teachers tocultivate students the ability of reading.Therefore, this paper mainly analyzes the PEP edition junior high schoolbiology textbook illustrations composition, classification, distribution characteristicsand nearly three years of junior high school of Yunnan province level test thecharacteristics of the biology paper figures involved examination questions. Itproposed some teaching strategies that trains the student to solve the problem andhow to effectively gain the illustrations information. At the same time, I carried outexperimental research to verify the validity of the illustration teaching strategies. Finally concluded: students who experienced the illustrations teaching, theillustrations reading ability be enhanced significantly.
