| Mc Tyeire School for girls and St. Mary’s Hall are the relatively influential places in missionary work since Shanghai has been opened pier by commerce. The development of these two girls’ schools has profound historical significance and far-reaching implication on the communication and exchanges of Chinese and Western culture and the cultivation of talents. This paper mainly studies the characteristics of music education in these two schools, via the system analysis on diverse aspects, e.g. piano performance, vocal music, or foundling of music club, which reflect the distinctive concept and theory of music teaching, the key factors in talents’ cultivation, and the effect of the music education characteristics to the social development. The positive and constructive experiences of the two girls’ school in music education also provide a good reference for the contemporary music education, which has very high-level historical value and practical significance. |
