The mental health of middle school students has a great influence on their physical and mental development. Anxiety is the most popular emotion problem which influences the middle school students. In order to offer scientific theoretical basis and effective guiding practice for the psychological counseling and mental health education of middle school, this research tries to investigate the basic characteristics of junior high school students’ attributional style, coping style and anxious level. Studying the effect of attributional style and coping style on anxious level if there is an intermediary role of the effect of coping style on anxious level.Children’s Attributional Style Questionnaire, Coping Style Questionnaire and Self-Rating Anxiety Scale were used in this study. Shanghai extracted nearly 1080 junior high school students, from three middle schools, were investigated. 1050 copies of questionnaires were retrieved, 951 copies of valid questionnaires, the effective rate was 90.57%. The result indicates that:(1).significant gender difference is found in junior high school students’ help-seeking dimension and rationalization dimension. There are more boys than girls tending to choose the rationalization, while, girls tend to ask for help.(2) There is no significant difference neither on different census register nor on the one-child or not in coping style, attributional style and anxious level.(3) There is significant grade difference in retreat, rationalization and anxious level. No significant difference in attributional style and other dimensions of coping style is found.(4) There is significant correlation among attributional style, coping style and anxious level of junior high school students.(5) Coping style(problem-solving, self-blaming, retreating, rationalization)partly mediates the association between the attributional style and anxious level.Based on the above research results, this paper reached the following conclusions.(1) The overall anxious level of junior high school students is high, in a state of mild anxiety. Their attributional style is generally optimistic and they give priority to mature coping styles.(2)Education teaching should pay more attention to the psychological state of senior students.In order to promotestudents’ mental health, school psychological counseling work should pay attention to the cultivation of students’ good attribution style and coping style.
