There is a very close association between the political and social history and the life history of individuals. Since the mid-twentieth century, China had experienced mounts of political movements, economic reforms and the social and cultural changes. All of these changes had influenced the people living in the historical circumstances to different extent. The ideology, activity and fully exert subjectivity of individuals in certain historical context, could affect different life history directly.The so-called life history means changing social roles by the influence of given cultural and social effects.The thesis discussed Borhuu’s life experience, who is an elder herdsman from Xilingol Aimag, and analyzed his life history with American Socialist Elder’s theory. Borhuu’s life history is a reflection of social and political history; and his life had been deeply influenced by social and political environment, and thus the changes in social roles results in changes of his thinking, behavior and value judgments and world-view. So it is significant to analyze his life history from the perspective of relationship between individuals and social relations, between political restriction elements and individual subjectivity.The thesis consist of five parts.The part of introduction explains research proposal including background, significance, methods and purpose of the study, as well as previous and current study of life history theory. The first chapter introduces social changes of Abaga Hoshuu, which is Borhuu’s hometown, since 1949. The second chapter summarizes Borhuu’s life experience generally. The third chapter describes Borhuu’s experience in life stages and political movement, and analyzes changes of his thinking, behavior and cognition. In the fourth chapter, the author discusses Borhuu’s life history in each period, and analyzes his adaptation to pastoral life in modern society and opinion regarding individual value. The conclusion part summarizes Borhuu’s life history so far apply to four fundamental principles of Elder’s Life History Theory.
