How to cater to all the students and implement reasonable participatory teaching in high school music appreciation course is the main subject of this essay.In this study, the method of educational action research, as well as observation, investigation, comparison and educational narrative method is used. The researcher teaches the students both in ordinary class and gifted class in Senior One with the same teaching design, and asks them to write about their reflection after class. Afterwards, according to the video of classroom teaching, the students’ participation in activities is classified and counted in terms of the scope, nature and the ways of participation, the participation space, the condition, level, default, dominance, effect, forms and frequency of participation and so on. Then compare all the statistics of participation, make brief analysis, and draw a conclusion by connecting the effect of classroom teaching with educational narration.The finding of the study shows that in high school music appreciation course, we can get similar results if we are geared to the needs of both ordinary class students and gifted class students and implement participatory teaching. From the actual teaching situation, teaching both ordinary class students and gifted class students with the same teaching design, teachers should make some adjustments to teaching methods and contents in the teaching process.Based on the above study, this essay makes the following suggestions. In the teaching of music appreciation in high school, teachers should be geared to the needs of all the students and implement participatory teaching. At the same time, the importance of personal participation should be stressed. Teachers should pay special attention to students’ emotional experience so as to optimize teaching with emotion. Encourage students to dominate their own learning in the classroom teaching and create a democratic atmosphere of learning. It is also of great importance to emphasize the characteristics of music subject, give priority to music experience and cultivate students’ creative awareness, cooperative awareness and team spirit. Therefore, teachers should deepen the understanding of music appreciation course, arouse students’ interest and raise students’ awareness of participation so as to improve the teaching of music appreciation course in high school.
