Underachievers in mathematics learning have been a hot issue in the teaching and research of education. Since the new innovation of curriculum, more and more front-line teachers and experts have researched on training the mathematical ability of the underachievers. The low computing ability causes a lot of difficulties for the mathematics study. In fact, the computing ability is one of the basic mathematical ability. It not only affects the underachievers’ mathematics study and prevents the development of other mathematical abilities, but also affects other subjects.This write studies the related theories research, combining with the teaching practice for the underachievers in mathematics. There’s an interview through the middle school mathematics teachers, physics teachers and chemistry teachers to help understand the status of the development of middle school students in math ability levels, the computing ability and the effects on other subjects. By testing the junior high underachievers about the computing ability and questionnaires, we made the qualitative and quantitative analysis on the results and conclude the situation about the computing ability of the mathematical underachievers. We also analyze the factors affecting the junior high mathematical underachievers’ computing ability and put forward the specific operational strategy on training the computing ability of junior high mathematical underachievers.Based on the investigation, the writer analyzes that the factors which affect the mathematical underachievers’ computing ability in include: 1.The influence of the school education. It includes the teachers’ cognition and behavior, the adjustment and the choice of the curriculum standard.2.The influence of the affective factors. It includes the underachievers’ briefs and attitude about Mathematics learning. Based on mathematical study psychology and “information practice theory”, training strategies for underachievers operation capability are raised.1.To enhance positive orientation by involving affective factors;2.More attention on elementary knowledge which will secure good understanding and familiarity basic mathematical operation;3.To enhance training on both basic skill and developed technique to enable creativity of the automation of the computing skills;4.To enhance training on the optimized teaching of the rules and methods of operation to enable transform from mathematical skill to mathematical ability.The research doesn’t focus on the development of the theory. Aimed at the special group of under-achievers, we use the existing theories for the mathematical teaching practice of the underachievers, to analyses the inherent cause of formation which cause the lower level of underachievers’ computing ability and to put forward the operational strategy to train the underachievers’ computing ability. So that it can provide lessons for teachers on the front.
