As the new "National Full-time Primary and Middle School Chinese Course Standard" enacted, Chinese instrumental role has been taken into great importance in the process of the Chinese language teaching in ethnic minority areas.Yi nationality has a rich history which has its own characteristic language and culture in China. People living in Yi areas usually communicate with each other in Yi language in daliy life. As a result, Chinese spoken or written is weaker than others in common Chinese areas. First mode -Bilingual education school teach most subjects in Yi except Chinese course. For middle school students in such schools, their Chinese level is poor which is very difficul for them to learn Chinese language better, and low their motivation to further study to some extent.Therefore, we hope that we can figure out the deep reasons caused motivation of Yi middle school students based on our survey and puts forward countermeasures to improve the motivation of their mandarin learning finally.This research selects a representative middle school of Liangshan Yi autonomous prefecture, with its two classes of junior high school and two classes of senior high school class in First mode -Bilingual education as the research object, obtained the first-hand information by means of questionnaire, interview, finding out the existing problems, and giving some feasibility suggestions according to the survey.This paper is divided into four parts. The first part is the introduction part, introducing the study of the origin and significance, research status, research methods and relevant definition of the core concepts. In the second part mainly combed the classification of Chinese language learning motivation and theoretical basis. Combined with field investigation and research of this article,explains Yi-Chiness bilingual learning motivation of middle school students mainly from three dimension,namely, the Reinforcement theory, Attribution theory and Self-efficacy theory. The next part of the research is mainly to the investigation and analysis of case in Sichuan province.The author discusses the influencing factors of study motivation from students, school and family factors based on the questionnaire, and purposefully puts forward corresponding countermeasures in the fourth part, namely, improving the Chinese teachers’ teaching concept, teaching expectation, setting a proper learning goal for Yi nationality middle school students and so on.
