Through several field visits in Dalad Banner, Erdos, Inner Mongolia, the author finds that local schools, represented by Dalad Banner X Middle School, have put consistent efforts in music education. And the schools have made some progress in recent years in various aspects including construction of new music classrooms, more investment in music teaching instruments, music teacher training and reviewing and extracurricular music activities. However, through a horizontal comparison with schools in developed areas, there are still gaps in terms of music education level between them.This paper focuses on Dalad Banner X Middle School and takes it as the chief source. Methods like questionnaires, interviews, observation and statistics are adopted to understand music education history in local middle schools. A comprehensive and in-depth analysis is conducted concerning local music teachers, teaching process, curriculum setting, classroom feedback, teacher-student relationship and the usage of textbooks and hardware. Then the subjective and objective factors of the current state and existing problems in music education are analyzed..For schools, after the visit and survey in Dalad Banner X Middle School, the author finds:Schools are not paying enough attention to music education; there are inadequate music activities and performance platforms for teachers and students; the schools cannot provide rich music materials.For teachers, through lectures, observation and statistics, the results show that:The local music teachers are not professional enough; they are not flexible in teaching; there is inadequate professional examination for music teachers; there is relatively less promotion prospect for music teachers; the teacher-student ratio is seriously unreasonable in music classes and teacher-student interaction needs to be improved.Through questionnaire by students and parents, it shows that:there is no fundamental change in students and parents’view on music education; students have uneven music basics; music homework is not completed in time; there is insufficient understanding on traditional music.The questionnaire for students and parents survey showed:Students and parents ideas for music lessons is also essentially unchanged; the basic level music students is uneven; the job is complete lack of music; insufficient understanding of traditional music.For textbooks, through investigation, it is learned that:No school-based textbook has been compiled for music education locally; the classes put too much emphasis on singing; music teaching plans are not completed in time.For the above-mentioned problems, corresponding thoughts and solutions are put forward, aimed to bring new ideas to the development of music education in middle schools in Dalad Banner. The author intends to provide his contribution to this cause.
