Manhattan,Music Course In Our Country Elementary And Middle Schools Music Education Enlightenment

After World War II, America created a campaign of educational reform which stared with Wood’s Hole Conference in1960s. Bruner, the famous psychologist, pointed that structure learning theory and spiral curriculum has become the mainstream of educational reform in The Process of Education. Manhattanville Music Curriculum Program (MMPC), as the excellent example of structure learning theory and spiral curriculum, was analyzed and discussed to explore and utilize the essence. It’s of reforming China elementary and secondary school music education in theories and practice. This article uses the research method basically has document retrieval and data analysis. It is based on MMPC and addresses the issue from four aspects. The first part is an introduction, mainly carries on the explanation to purposes and the meanings of the research. The overview of the past studies focuses on the present situation to illustrate the methods and main content of the research. The second part discusses the birth of MMPC and the relationship of MMPC’s educational psychology from Piaget’ s to Bruner’s. In the third part, it is divided into two sections. At first, it focuses on the main content of MMPC:children in kindergarten through3rd grade instituting communication course and3rd to12th grade instituting integrated curriculum. Then, it focuses on the feature of MMPC:stressing concept, order of learning music, universality and specificity of learning music and diversification, etc. The forth part analyses MMPC in music education of China elementary and secondary school, for example, the curriculum having aesthetic, humanity and practicality; being student-oriented and paying attention to perception and appreciation, practice and creation; advancing spiral curriculum and gradient gradually. Based on the research above, it summaries that MMPC has effect on music education of China elementary and secondary school.
