This article restores the design and status of the major settings for art majors based on the research of the developmental history of artistic education in college during the Republican period, and especially focuses on art academies, normal colleges, and comprehensive colleges. This article analyzes and combines the study results of related historical documents and cases in education ideas, teaching models, school size, length of schooling, major setting, course setting, faculty, etc. This article emphasizes on the analysis of program and course setting for majors such as fine arts, professional music, professional theater etc. This article also clarifies the true situations and features of course setting for art majors during Republican era. In general, on one hand, due to the dissemination and prevalence of western art-education concepts, colleges began attaching importance to the development of a new model for art majors and course setting. The pioneers combined eastern and western art-education concepts; linked theory with practice; incorporated general courses with art courses; and finally built a new model that served better than ever before for both students and the society. Such new model also freed people’s mind and promoted the civil society. On the other hand, due to the limitations and narrowness of that period, the implementation of the measures still depended on individual teachers. This true situation not only hindered the general development of art-education, but also restricted the development of "systematicness", "scientificness", and sustainability for the course setting. Since then, China had entered into a new era of art-education in the Republican period. The experiences and lessons we can learn from this era will definitely be meaningful and beneficial for the development of art-education in contemporary China, especially for discovering talent and nurturing them by setting sound courses mode.
