Undergraduate education is the most important basis for improving the quality of higher education,and it’s development of undergraduate education is inseparable from the reasonable setting of undergraduate majors.To run higher education well and build a world-class university,talent training is the foundation,and undergraduate education is the root.To build a higher education power,we must adhere to the "undergraduate education-oriented" and put undergraduate education at the core of talent training.To build high-level undergraduate education,we must strengthen the construction of first-class undergraduate majors that are future-oriented,adapt to needs,lead development,have advanced concepts,and have strong guarantees.As the basic organization of talent training in universities,the establishment and construction of majors directly affect the quality of talent training in universities.Based on this,this study takes the undergraduate-level elementary education major as the entry point,in order to further understand the level of undergraduate major setting and the development of undergraduate education in China Summarize the basic characteristics of the major setting of undergraduate-level elementary education and the leading factors affecting the setting of majors.This study follows the research ideas of combining time and space,combining macro and micro,and combining point and surface,and adopts literature analysis,text analysis,historical research,data analysis and interview methods,under the guidance of the theory and policy basis of major setting,the triangular coordination theory of higher education and the center-periphery theory.Starting from the undergraduate-level elementary education major,explore the development process and evolution path of undergraduate-level elementary education majors,summarize the characteristics of undergraduate majors in China and provide rational explanations;take Guangxi Normal University as an example to carry out case studies,and sort out Guangxi Normal University undergraduate-level elementary education majors from a micro perspective.The motivation and setting process of major setting summarizes the main characteristics and reasons behind the major setting of undergraduate-level elementary education,in order to provide enlightenment for optimizing the major setting in China.The study found that by 2021,the setting of undergraduate-level elementary education major can be divided into three stages.The first stage is a period of rapid growth(1998-2003)led by the government,and the second stage(2004-2008)is a sharp decline under quality control.,and the third stage is the fluctuating growth period(2009-present)under the prominent consciousness of the subject of universities.In terms of the geographical distribution of the the setting of undergraduate-level elementary education major,by 2021,a total of 304 universities in China have set up undergraduate-level elementary education major.The spatial distribution of the number of universities setting undergraduate-level elementary education major shows the characteristics of more in the southeast and less in the northwest;In the provincial distribution,it is characterized by large dispersion and small agglomeration;The degree of concentration of universities setting undergraduate-level elementary education major in provincial capital cities is higher in the northwest and lower in the middle and east.In terms of the types of universities setting undergraduate-level elementary education major,China has formed a school-running system in which public-run schools are the mainstay and private-run schools are supplemented;In terms of school-running types,there is a school-running pattern that is dominated by comprehensive colleges and normal colleges,supplemented by other colleges and universities;The school-running level presents a school-running pattern that is dominated by local normal university and supplemented by others.Combined with the research results of the historical investigation and current situation analysis of the undergraduate-level elementary education major,it finds that the trend of setting undergraduate-level elementary education major has changed from blind expansion to orderly growth;The phenomenon of unbalanced distribution of majors has always existed;the types of universities setting undergraduate-level elementary education major have changed from unified to diversified;the influencing factors of the undergraduate-level elementary education major have changed from government-led to multi-resonant.Based on the main characteristics and practical difficulties of the setting of undergraduate-level elementary education major in China,the following measures to optimize the setting of undergraduate-level elementary education major are obtained: First,the value of undergraduate major setting should be realized,and the fundamental purpose is to cultivate talents;it should meet the development needs of basic education,dynamic adjustment of the layout of undergraduate majors;explore the foundation of undergraduate major setting,scientifically deal with historical and era factors;follow the logic of undergraduate major setting to achieve harmonious coexistence of multiple subjects. |
