The textbooks have played an irreplaceable role for conveying knowledge since ancient times. So, the research around the textbooks is a hot topic. But, as a facade of a textbook, covers didn’t get the attention they deserve. Actually, we shouldn’t ignore it because of its huge information carrying capacity. No wander, the publisher of "Renjiaoban" high school history textbooks has publicly called for looking at one more glance to the covers.The academic articles about the textbook covers are numbered. And there is only one article has high correlation about this topic:Zhang Huazhong:The history textbook contains information of Humanities. However, the author pays too much attention to the humanities information of the cover picture to carry on the research and overlooks the other important roles the elements such as text messages and colors play in covers. The study object of this article is the covers of "Renjiaoban" high school history textbooks. It is analyzed by means of a vertical and horizontal comparison and case study, so that there are learns here for the research and using textbook covers. Also this article pick the areas where it makes sense to innovate.For the covers of textbooks, through the education psychology, aesthetics, communication sciences and book art design, we can know the design of the textbook covers is scientific and rigorous. And under the theories, history books has the function of attracting students’ interest; reflecting the text content; refracting the times content,; Developing 3D objects and interpreting the images Era.Through comparing with 2005 "Renjiaoban" high school history textbooks, we can see its progress on the whole. It according with subject nature, students’ aesthetic tendency and education idea.Through comparing with other high school textbooks, it had this epiphany in comparison because of its high level of binding and rich information, but the questions covers designers faced are the full is adequacy; the typical is not strong; the scientific nature is not rigorous and the form of "the study suggestion" is not diverse.In practice, the covers can play a part before class; in class and after class. In order to maximize the benefits of it, we should rely on the students, teachers and textbook designers.
