With further promotion of reform on new courses and constant updating of teaching concepts, reading after class is being more and more valued. However, in practical teaching, it will be often ignored. In terms of practice, the author of the essay is attempting to understand the status quo and find problems of children by questionnaire, to find the causes by interviewing teachers and parents, to seek effective tactics and to practice them, in order that front-line teachers can get examples of Chinese extracurricular reading guide. Meanwhile, the position of extracurricular reading teaching will be strengthened.The basic conclusion of this study mainly includes the followings:(1) the status quo. Students are interesting in Chinese extracurricular reading. Teachers also realize the importance of Chinese extracurricular reading. (2) problems. Students’reading purpose, reading habits, reading methods, exist problems. They need guidance from teachers (especially the language teacher). Teacher valued the importance of extracurricular reading, however, few specific guidance has been given. Parents almost give no guidance. (3) Reasons. This study argues that the cause of the problem is mainly as follows:the lack of theoretical research, practical experience and the support of the external environment, physical and mental characteristics of students’. (4) Improvement strategy. According to cause analysis, practice experience of language teachers, supporting from social are very important. Through a class and rethink, author hopes to be helpful to the subsequent practice exploration.
