Along with the evolvement of science and technology, remarkable progress and achievements have been made in biological sciences since the beginning of the 21st century. Biological science and technology is attracting more and more attention since it is closely related to the development of social economy. In response, our country carried out the curriculum reform in 2001, in which research-oriented studies are highlighted in biological science. In this pedagogical form, students are encouraged to fully participate in the whole teaching process by practicing more and thinking deeper. However, to nurture students with outstanding research abilities, teachers should first of all be equipped with complete set of research abilities.Despite large volume of studies on research abilities of middle school students, the research on that of the undergraduates still remains a vacuum land. This article tries to put forward a series of constructive suggestions based on the status quo of scientific research abilities on biological normal undergraduates in Nanjing Normal University. This research reveals that research abilities on biological normal undergraduates are satisfactory with outstanding abilities in putting forward hypothesis and presumptions, concluding from experiments. Moreover, most of the students are in with the current pedagogical practice in nurturing their scientific research abilities. However, more opportunities on doing experiments and research are needed. The above findings are based on the detailed analysis on the main elements of scientific research by introducing previous studies and colossal collection of vast data in complicated paradigms that are meticulously pooled and calculated.
