With the developments of science and technology, English plays a more and more important role today. English writing plays an increasingly important role in the international exchange and cooperation. English writing skills reflect the ability of English learning. "New curriculum standard "says " teachers should create all kinds of cooperative learning activities to encourage students to learn from each other and help each other to develop team spirit ".However, writing has always been the weakness of a student and becomes the weak link of English teaching. It’s a question that how to raise student’s English writing level. Many teachers are exploring and expect to find a way to improve students’ writing.The experiment is on the basis of previous studies, according to social psychology, cognitive psychology and constructivism learning theory. The experiment lasting a half year was conducted in two classes in Grade 1 in one senior high school. The experimental process included pre-test, experiment and post-test with a lot of raw data drawn from questionnaires, tests, interviews, case studies and daily observation. After thorough analysis and comparison, the author has proved the feasibility and validity of cooperative learning applied to English writing in senior high school. The conclusion is listed as follows:(1) the writing model by cooperative learning can remove students’ fear and anxiety in writing; (2) the new writing model turns out to have improved students’ writing competence and scores in English tests; (3) cooperative learning advocates students to accomplish a common goal by group work, therefore, it proves to be an effective learning strategy which can strengthen students’ awareness of cooperation and teamwork.Although the cooperative learning in the teaching has been widely applied, however, the group cooperative learning teaching method in practical applications still have some problems. We need to further promote innovation and continuous research. We hope to make contributions to English teaching.
