Infant play painting, also known as infant at play painting or infant play pattern. It is onekind of painting theme which lets the children be the models and shows how children playand live. There are many elements in infant play painting such as society, culture, and historyand so on. It shows people’s lives and customs in the ancient society. We can see the survivalstatus of children. Infant play painting is shown on different forms. The main form we usehere is Chinese Scroll Painting. In this paper, the interpretational of children means theperceptions and attitudes that adults have on children. In this study,52infant play paintingsare collected totally and22of them are selected for the intensive analysis. The others are usedfor a reference in the researching progress. Different dimensions are used to explore theinterpretational of children. Infant play painting depicts the lives of children, andcommunicates information about childhood in a direct way. From infant play painting, we cansee how people treat children and what views adults have on children at the old dynasty.Chapter one is about the overview of infant play painting and the interpretational ofchildren. The connotative meaning and the development history of infant play painting andthe interpretational of children are explained. There is a description about why we chooseinfant play painting as the entry point. There is also a brief introduction of how to chooseproper infant play paintings for this paper.Chapter two is about how to analyze infant play painting from different dimensions. Thefour main dimensions used are children’s accessories, expression and action, game and toys,and the relationships between children and adults. Children’s clothes and hair styles are alsomentioned. In order to explore the core interpretational of children precisely, the most properdimension is selected carefully. It is based on the key content shown in the painting. Chapter three is about the reflection of the interpretational of children getting frominfant play painting and the modern interpretational of children. It is about the modern colorof the ancient interpretational of children. We should value the ancient and moderninterpretational of children in a historical and dialogical way.Infant play painting provides a great number of information about the interpretational ofchildren in old dynasty so we can use it as an entry point. Adults let the children be themodels and draw their lives in details. This action means adults care and love children.Chinese in the old dynasty notice the existence of children, realize the nature of children, andhave the interpretational of children. In the Tang infant play painting, we can see the adult’slove for children. In the Song infant play painting, game is an important part of children’s life.Children have many interesting toys. Adults provide game stuff and comfortable gameenvironment positively. Adults think children need a happy childhood. The main content ofthe Yuan Ming Qing dynasty infant play painting is how children play with their companion.Adults find the relationship between game and children. They realize playing games ischildren’s nature. Infant play painting shows the interpretational of children of the ancients.Even though, this paper cannot show all the parts of the interpretational of children of theancients, it can provide references and supplements for the research of childhood. It can alsostimulate a reflection of the problem that the modern interpretational of children has.
