Shortcomings in common literary knowledge teaching(CLKT) such as arbitrariness, disorganization, blindness and simplification often contribute to low efficiency or even inefficiency of Chinese language teaching, which hinders the education of Chinese language and cultivation of humanistic qualities.The investigation on the current status of CLKT is an important method to overcome the difficulties in the Chinese teaching in middle school and to bring CLKT back to the normal track.In this study, the current status of CLKT in junior high schools of Conghua was investigated, based on which the strategy that might improve the efficiency of CLKT was concluded to break the bottleneck of poor literary cultivation and humanistic qualities in middle school students.This study was consisted of four parts:In part one, four reasons were demonstrated to explain why this topic was selected. Also, previous studies on the CLKT in China were reviewed and classified to identify key points to start this study. Moreover, the objective theoretical significance and practical significance of this study were summarized.In part two, the general concept of effective teaching was proposed and the definition of common literary knowledge was identified. On such basis, the range of common literary knowledge was defined to summarize what meant effective CLKT.In part three, the significance to place focus on CLKT was analyzed with consideration of the case in Chinese language teaching material in junior high school and the examination of literary knowledge for admission to high schools in Guangzhou. Also, the factors involving students and teachers that cause problems in CLKT were analyzed via investigation of current status of CLKT in junior high school in Conghua District.In part four, the problems proposed in part three were further analyzed to propose a practical measure for effective CLKT which included effective preparation before teaching, effective execution during teaching and effective assessment.
