The major of music teachers’education in universities is acclaimed as the cradle of cultivating music teachers for primary and middle schools and social institutions. This article focuses on three aspects:how to make the major of music teachers’education in colleges fit in the demand of the society; what The Standards of Music Curriculum (2011 edition) (hereafter referred to as the New Standards of Music Curriculum) requires teachers to do; and how these requirements influence the cultivation of teachers in colleges/universities. The mainline of this article is music curriculum reform. Through a historical viewing on the development of the standards of general music education curriculum, the new requirements towards teachers and teaching by the standards of music education are clearly understood. Meanwhile, combining with the curriculum arrangement printed in The Guideline of Undergraduate Curriculum of Musicology of Nationwide General Institutions of Higher Education (hereafter referred to as the Guideline) and comparing the specific training programs of the six colleges which attended curriculum reform experiment with the non-experimental colleges, this article concludes the common grounds and differences in curriculum arrangements. According to the requirements of the New Standards of Music Curriculum, the article further puts forward suggestions and reflections on curriculum arrangement of music teachers’ education in universities. There are three sections of this article:Introduction:put forward the problem origin and background, current research status and the purpose and meaning of this research. The first chapter:The course of history of music curriculum reform in elementary education stage. The article tries to make a statement from the perspective of curriculum objectives, curriculum contents, curriculum assessment, etc and analyzes the new requirements raised by the New Standards of Music Curriculum. The second chapter:the Guideline stipulated the curriculums in colleges/universities in 2005 and selected six colleges/universities as experimental schools in Jiangsu Province. This section analyzes the common grounds and differences between the training programs implemented in the six experimental schools and the curriculums printed in the Guideline, and thus reflect the differences existing in the six experimental schools. The third chapter:This chapter illustrates the training programs implemented in three non-experimental colleges/universities in Jiangsu Province and compares them with the Guideline, and therefore reaches a conclusion of the similarities and differences of the Guideline which has been putting into effect for a while. The fourth chapter:Through comparing the New Standards of Music Curriculum with curriculums in former years, new requirements and the curriculum arrangements of current training programs in colleges/universities are concluded, and thus the article offers a proposal for the curriculum of music teachers’ education in colleges/universities.
