This paper explores the value and m anagement of current music teaching for non-art major students in colleges and universities.It holds that special teaching goals,teaching plans,teaching contents,teach ing management systems,teaching assessments and evaluations have been set for non-art m ajor students in colleges and universities in China,which has guarant eed the successful developm ent of music teaching for non-art m ajor students,and added value to talent cu ltivation to som e degree.The paper analyses the existing problems in the process of music teaching and management for non-art students,includi ng short teaching tim e,less purposeful teaching contents,formalistic music selective courses,lac king systematic teaching supervisions,effective evaluation measures,necessary on-campus and of f-campus art education activities,etc.It believes that the roots of those problems lie on that school leaders and teachers don't put en ough emphasis on m usic selective courses;the specialized management of music teaching for non-art major students is insufficient;there is no systematic teaching plans;the teaching model of music selective courses is outdated;education administrative departm ent lacks necessary assessment measures,etc.Based on the above analysis,the paper puts forward the following viewpoints and countermeasures: music teaching and managing activities for non-art m ajor students in colleges and universities can enrich students` talents and skills,widen the ir knowledge,and help them gain healthy and positive personalities and em otional psychology.It plays an im portant part in the healthy d evelopment of colleg e and university students.Accordi ng to the cu rrent three ch aracteristics non-art major college and university students share in th e process of music learning: poor basic knowledge,low music learning ability and low learning interest,we should carry out management and reforms in the following aspects: strengthen schools` and teachers` awareness of the i mportance of music educat ion;definitive goals and contents of talent training;create good teaching e nvironment for music classes;enhance researches on students` study characteristics for music;strengthen supervisions,assessments and evaluations for music te aching activities.Only by innovating and reforming music teaching and managing activities for non-art major students,can we improve students` comprehensive quality,as well as teaching quality and effect.
