The change of students’ learning style is one of the ideas and objectives of new curriculum. Cooperative learning is an important way of learning as the basic education curriculum reform advocates, the survey helps to understand the status of its implementation of the new curriculum for the status of implementation of a place. For many remote areas in the west, since the implementation of the new curriculum is relatively late, coupled with the limitations of traditional values and economic level, the implementation of the new curriculum is not as optimistic as the developed regions. Therefore, the author takes a small county of Gansu Province as an example, starting from geography angle, conducts the investigation and research on its implementation status of high school geography teaching cooperative learning. Through investigation and research, on the one hand, find the existing problems and difficulties, through the analysis of the problem, find the relevant literature and combine with the front-line teachers suggestions, and proposed to optimize the area high school geography cooperative learning strategies. On the other hand, provide some reference data for the study of the new curriculum, make the researchers pay more attention and guidance on these aspects, and provide certain guarantee for the implementation of the new curriculum really be put in the remote western region, further realize the comprehensive advancement of new curriculum reform in our country.This research based on the requirement of the times, the requirement of the new curriculum reform,the need of the development of the individual and the need of the local implementation for new curriculum reform as the background.With the importance of cooperative learning in high school geography course as a starting point, on the basis of social interdependence theory, motivation theory, zone of proximal development theory,constructivism learning theory and the theory of multiple intelligences, combing and referencing to domestic and foreign related research, using the methods of questionnaire investigation and interview investigation, investigated the current situation of Cooperative learning in three high school geography course in Qingcheng county of Gansu Province. In the setting of questionnaire, after a preliminary preparation, testing, several amendments to finalize the teacher and student questionnaires. The questionnaire is mainly from the cognition and attitude of teachers and students, the utilization degree of teachers, students’ participation, evaluation and reflection effects for the setting of the problem.In addition, small part of students are selected to answer questions of the questionnaire and carried on the interview to some geography teachers. Through the survey results and statistical analysis, this study makes the following conclusions:Cooperative learning has been relatively extensive use in high school geography teaching, most of the teachers and students hold positive attitude towards cooperative learning, almost all the students agreed that the group cooperative learning have positive effects on them, indicating that the cooperative learning can indeed play a certain effect. However, the effect of cooperative learning has still much room for improvement, the survey also found a lot of problems. Mainly displays in:Teachers and students’ understanding of cooperative learning is not comprehensive. The construction of group has the certain problem. The student’s participation is not balanced. Evaluation of cooperative learning and reflection needs to be improved. Part of cooperative learning is ineffective.At last, based on the results and specific issues presented in this survey, the author puts forward corresponding suggestions to the current situation of cooperative learning in the local high school geography course.(1)For the Education Department and schools:Implementation of quality education, improve teacher management and training; Providing the necessary resources and support for cooperative learning.(2)For teachers:Strengthening the relevant theoretical study and improve professionalism; Improve teachers’ skills level of cooperation; Cooperative learning groups should be established reasonably; The content of the cooperative learning should be selected carefully; Focus on the participation of all students; Focus on the role of teachers in the diversified development of cooperative learning; Evaluation should be improved and the reflection in a timely manner.(3)For students:Changing geography learning concepts and learning styles; Do a good job of preview and review; Strengthen the self monitoring and evaluation of geography cooperative learning.
