The ways of perception and performance of auditory art with visual art are different, but under the conditions, their physical and mental is interlinked, and they connect, interpenetrate with each other. Finally they form audio-visual synesthesia phenomenon in the brain of individual. "Audio-visual synesthesia" is a very common psychological phenomenon. It full of all aspects of people’s life, and plays an important role in people’s a variety of aesthetic activities. It is the link of visual and auditory art, the source of artistic creation. It inspired the artist to perform voice with animation, and the composers to describe image and color with music.Firstly, the students’ performance in appreciation teaching with the visual media and without the visual media were compared and analyzed on the base of introduction of the formation and characteristics of audio-visual synesthesia. The questionnaire results and the experimental data show that joining the visual means to music teaching can change the transient music into the vivid visual art. It is not only the most basic way of cultivating and developing students’ aesthetic experience, but also can improve drastically the ability of the students’ music memory and enhance their perception in music works. Secondly, the value of audio-visual synesthesia applied to primary school music appreciation teaching is analyzed and explored, and found that audio-visual synesthesia make very positive sense to music appreciation teaching. Using audio-visual synesthesia in music teaching can effectively inspire the students’ enthusiasm of learning music, so it can make the students apperceive and understand music comprehensively and also has better effect on cultivating the learner’s aesthetic consciousness and creativity. In this paper, the author effectively integrates the visual arts and auditory art, and proposes the method how to effectively apply the audio-visual synesthesia to primary school music appreciation teaching. The ways how to effectively stimulate the audio-visual synesthesia and improve the effects of teaching music in the music appreciation teaching is discussed in detail from three aspects, image, teaching aids, and dynamic media. Using the visual means in music appreciation teaching can strengthen the performance of music emotion. Relying on the picture, the students can better comprehend the significance and the emotion of music. It can also actively arouse students’pursuit of knowledge and curiosity, inspire and cultivate the students’ interest in music learning. Then the students can actively participate in the music learning, which improving the students’ initiative and enthusiasm, cultivating students’ creative thinking, and laying the foundation for better apperceived and understood music.Therefore,theeffect to get the maximum level of play in teaching; the way of experiencing music is opened; the vast field of music education is expanded.
