The mental health service is oriented by the theories and the methods of psychology to maintain and promote peoples’ mental health activities. The need for mental health services is the objective demands for the mental health services, which depend on the gap between public’s actual and ideal mental health conditions. During the process of survival and development, human have to face the problem of how to maintain and promote the mental health. So they need mental health services. The higher vocational college students who are at the stage of early period or the final period adolescence is facing a series of confuse about the transformation and orientation of themselves, or the development of their life and so on. Thus they need appropriate and effective mental health services more than others. This is the premise of the existence of the mental health services for higher vocational college students. This research is an empirical study, which is aimed at the need of mental health services of higher vocational college students.This research adopt a mixed research design, taking the college students from Yibin Vocational and Technical College as the research object, investigating the need of mental health services of those higher vocational college students, to explore the starting point of the mental health service of Yibin Vocational and Technical College, and to improve the pertinence and effectiveness of mental health services in this college, also making clear the orientation of mental health services in this college. Those conclusions about the need of mental health services of vocational college students that the author have made can be used as significant basis when Yibin Vocational and Technical College formulate their planning about mental health services, they also could be the decision reference for other vocational colleges and schools.The research on higher vocational college students’ mental health services needs come to the following conclusions:1.Higher vocational college students have strong, perceived needs for mental health services.2.The ranking of each specific mental health services that higher vocational college students need is: service content, non-professional services, attitude and manner, public services, professional services, civil services.3.The ranking of the agencies which is hoped to supply mental health services to higher vocational college students is: community mental health center, school psychological center, staff psychological center, hospital, private mental psychological center, epidemic prevention departments, non-governmental organizations, mental health institutions.4.The ranking of peoples who are hoped to supply mental health services to higher vocational college students is: classmates and friends, parents and relatives, school psychologists, doctors, teachers, private health experts, mental health experts, self-solved, folks, let it have its swing.5.The ranking of ways about accessing mental health services for higher vocational college students is: discuss with families; propaganda; counsel to classmates and friends of the same age; health education; counsel to psychologist face to face; counsel to counselors and teachers; counsel to outpatient doctors; counsel with letters; network service; counsel to mental health experts face to face; counsel with telephone.6.The services and projects that higher vocational college students wish to provide are as follows: career choice and career development; interpersonal relationships; academic problems; self-management; livelihood and life; marriage and sexual psychology; crisis intervention, substance dependency; prevention for mental disease.7.The demographic characteristics of higher vocational college students’ mental health services needs.
