Objective To understand the current situation of College Students'physical and mental health. To analyze the impact of body mass index on physical and mental health. So as to provide scientific basis for improving college students'and even the national physical health level and formulating relevant policies. Methods The research data are the results of physical and mental health tests of 2872students in a Vocational College of Tongling City in 2016.Physical fitness test indicators include 50 meters running, standing long jump, sitting forward bending, endurance running?1000 meters for boys and 800 meters for girls?,pull-up?men?,one minute sit-ups?women?.SCL-90 was used for mental health test.ResultsThe BMI of college students was 20.84±4.23 kg/m2,of which the male students were 21.13±3.61kg/m2 and the female students were 20.64±4.61kg/m2.The difference was statistically significant?P=0.002?.The distribution of nutritional status of male and female students was statistically significant?P<0.001?.The results of 50 meter running were statistically significant?P=0.001,P<0.001?between boys overweight and obese and normal group?P=0.001,P<0.001?.The relationship between high to low and low grade was in turn:normal>overweight>obesity;there was no statistical difference between the female groups?P=0.179?.There was significant difference between male students'overweight, obesity, severe obesity and normal group?P<0.001,<0.001,P=0.002?.The relationship between high to low and BMI was in sequence:normal>overweight>severe obesity>obesity;there was significant difference between female overweight, severe obesity and normal group?P<0.001,P<0.001?,from high to low,the relationship between BMI and obesity was obesity>normal>severe obesity. There was significant difference between the boys and the normal group?P=0.002?.The relationship between the scores from high to low and the lower BMI was:normal>lean, and there was no statistical difference between the female groups?P=0.350?.There was no significant difference in the 1000 meter running between boys and girls:there was no significant difference between the group and the normal group?P=0.968,0.135,0.511,0.100?.The results of 800-meter dash of female students showed significant difference between overweight and normal group?P<0.001?.The relationship between overweight and BMI was normal>overweight. The results of male students'introduction were statistically significant?P<0.001,P<0.001,P=0.006?,and the relationship between high to low and BMI was in turn:normal>overweight>severe obesity>obesity;girls'sit ups in one minute:there was no statistical difference between the groups?P=0.188?.The vital capacity and physical indicators?50 meters running, standing long jump, endurance running,pull-up?male?/one minute sit-up?female??of college students in this study were lower than those of 19-22 year-old college students in 2010.The overall mental health level of 2872 college students was better, and the scores of SCL-90 factors were lower than those of the National Youth norm in 1984,the new norm of the national college students in 2008 and the norm of the higher vocational colleges in 2011.On the other hand, according to the positive screening criteria of SCL-90,389 students which accounted for 13.54%of the overall students were in condition of sub-healthy,indicated that the overall mental health level of college students was good, however,it should not be excessive optimistic.SCL-90 total score was significantly different between male and female students?P=0.025?.Male college students scored higher on paranoid factors than girls, and the difference was statistically significant?P=0.031?.Female college students scored higher on anxiety, depression and phobia than male students, and the difference was statistically significant?phobia and anxiety P<0.001,depression P=0.005?.It shows that male and female college students are different in mental health. There was no significant difference in scores of SCL-90 of the overall students among different BMI?P>0.05?.There was significant difference in the scores of obsessive-compulsive symptoms of male students among different BMI grades?P<0.05?,and no significant difference in the scores of other factors?P>0.05?.There was no significant difference in the scores of each factor of female students among different BMI grades?P>0.05?.Conclusions BMI has a very significant correlation with the respiratory function and aerobic capacity of college students. The high or low BMI value has a very significant correlation with the physical health indicators of college students:The physical health level of the overweight and obesity group was lower than that of the normal group.Adolescent obesity is the focus of current epidemiological attention,in addition, the impact of leanness on physical health is also worthy of our attention. At present, the mental health level of college students is generally good, but only using the SCL-90 mental symptom self rating scale as a survey tool can not represent all the results.Different BMI has no influence on the scores of SCL-90 factors, but the sample size used in this study is limited, and we can try to further explore in the future.
