Environmental issue, is one of the major global problems that human beings facing. China is the largest developing country as well as the largest resource consumption country in the world. In recent years, the situation of excessive consumption of nature resources, environmental pollution and ecological degradation is getting more serious. The contradiction between economic development and environmental protection has been more and more outstanding. In this context, to carry out national environmental education, enhancing people’s awareness of environmental protection, is a very important and urgent task. The best way to implement environmental education is through school environmental education.Diqing is the unique Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province, with many different minority groups, abundant natural resources and fragile ecological environment etc.. The development of Diqing basically relies on industralization such as tourism, biological product, hydropower, and mining. So that the economic development foundamentaly depends on the nature resources. The wellknown Shangri-la would lose her attraction and vitality if the condition of ecological destruction and environmental pollution could not be effectively controlled. Therefore, it is very important and meaningful for this special region to carry out environmental education effectively in the schools.For about a decade, Shangri-la Vocational School with more than 10 primary and secondary schools including young monks school of Dongzhulin Monastery participated in the “Waterschool China” programme of Shangri-la Institute for Sustainable Communities. Through this programme and supports from Shangri-la Institute for Sustainable Communities, the schools achieved good results in environmental education. More other schools also carry out various activities of environmental education with different aspects, whatever, there are more things need to be improved. This essay attempts to provide some productive suggestions and promote future environmental education more effectively in the schools of Diqing by concerning multiple angles such as subject infiltration, comprehensive practice and project implementation etc..
