In the new period, in the journey of realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, as a frontier ideological work in colleges and universities, is shouldering the study of marxism, cultivate and carry forward the socialist core values, in order to realize China’s dream important mission to provide talent guarantee and intellectual support. How to use the socialist core values at the head of the college students’ thought, in order to train qualified builders and reliable successors to the socialist provides spiritual power and ideological guarantee, is a major theoretical and practical problems. Only unified thinking and will, can realize China’s dream of a powerful force. The United States as the world today the developed capitalist countries, the domestic citizen education highly attention from beginning to end all, engaged in the education of a large amount of considerable effectiveness and achieved fruitful results. Through the comparative analysis with a citizen of the United States, the revelatory significance of ideological and political education at institutions of higher learning in our country is great, we should draw lessons from the successful experience of the American citizen education, further development and innovation of ideological and political education in colleges and universities, strengthen its effectiveness.This paper, by using comparative research, literature research, historical analysis, etc., adhere to the basic principle of marxism, at the same time, combining with the characteristics of era and on citizen education and ideological and political education on the basis of the concept of, through the analysis to compare the civil education and ideological and political education in colleges and universities cultivate target, education method and content of the similarities and differences, from the aspects of society, schools, institutions and mechanisms reveals the causes of differences, it is concluded that we should inherit and carry forward the fine tradition of the ideological and political education in colleges and universities, and to absorb all outstanding achievements, create accord with the fresh experience in colleges and universities in our country, for the innovation and development of ideological and political education in colleges and universities to provide powerful guarantee.The paper mainly divided into the following four parts:The first part:introduction. Elaborated the topic selected topic background, research status, research purpose and significance, research methods.The second part:through access to information on citizen education and ideological and political education for objective knowledge, based on the two basic concepts, induces the citizen education and ideological and political education of the differences and relations, laying a foundation for below.The third part:from the United States citizen education and the development of ideological and political education in colleges and universities in China and the present situation, this paper compares the U.S. citizen education and the ideological and political education goal, content, method, environment, and from the society, schools, institutions and mechanisms three sides facing the analysis of the differences, to seek common, as will a citizen of the United States education "localization" experience of the use of leading the direction.The fourth part:put forward a citizen of the United States education enlightenment on ideological and political education in colleges and universities in our country, namely, clear the education target, enrich education content, method of innovation education, optimize the education environment, in order to enhance the pertinence of ideological and political education in colleges and universities, appeal, appeal and effectiveness.
