Patriotism is the deepest feeling that people have formed for their motherland.It is the dependence of individuals on the motherland.It is the unity of a sense of belonging,identity,sense of dignity,and sense of honor for the homeland and the nation and culture.As two major countries in the world,China and the United States attach great importance to patriotism education and have achieved certain educational results.The patriotism formed under the different historical conditions and cultural background of China and the United States has different educational approaches,connotation and characteristics.A comparative analysis of patriotic education approaches between China and the United States can help us to clearly understand the advantages and disadvantages of patriotic education approaches in our country,and draw lessons from the experience of patriotic education in the United States.This paper combs the history and reality of patriotism education in China and America,and concludes that the main channels of patriotism education in China are family education,school education,history education and mass media.The American patriotism education approach is home education,school education,and social education with American characteristics,including the use of its civic education and religious beliefs to conduct patriotism education.This paper analyzes the commonalities and differences of family education,school education,and historical and cultural education approaches in patriotism education between China and America,and holds that different historical and cultural backgrounds,different social systems,different school education systems,and different values are the main reasons for the difference.Through comparison and analysis,the thesis believes that while inheriting and carrying forward the excellent patriotism tradition,China can learn from the experience of American civic education,and can also learn from the measures of the United States to raise personal tax awareness in dealing with the relationship between national and individual interests.In drawing lessons from the United States,we should avoid the influence of idealism's worldview on the patriotic education of China's dialectical and materialistic,and avoid the influence of hegemonic ideas on our peace-loving patriotism education;In the field of comparative innovation in patriotism education,we must enhance the people's awareness of globalization in the context of reform and opening up,and we must strengthen rational patriotism awareness education in the context of the improvement of comprehensive national strength.Learning from the successful experience and lessons of the American patriotism education approach can help us to seek new ways and methods of patriotism education,which is of great significance to the development of patriotism education in China.
