As we all know, reading plays an important role in people’s well-round development.The ultimate goal of Chinese reading teaching is to cultivate students’ reading competence.Grade Seven to Grade Nine is the critical period for students to develop reading ability, which should be paid attention to by teachers. As a result, the cultivation of students’ reading ability from Grade Seven to Grade Nine should stand on the change and requirement posed by curriculum standard(2011). Teachers should set the direction explicitly, put forward efficient teaching strategy, carry out teaching activity. It should not neglect the programmatic and directory position of curriculum standard.This dissertation is based on the changes from curriculum standard in 2011 to Chinese Curriculum Standard of Full-Time Compulsory Education(experimental draft)(it is called experimental draft in the following). It strives to study the cultivation of Chinese reading ability of students from Grade Seven to Grade Nine. It includes three parts. In the first part, it studies the changes of curriculum standard in 2011. It analyzes the background, the basis and the value of this curriculum standard, providing the support and paving the way for the following statement. The second part is the extension of the first part, and the basis of the third part. Based on the teaching concept, and applying the pattern of main idea-in detail, this dissertation analyzes the new requirement for cultivating students’ reading ability from Grade Seven to Grade Nine in curriculum standard from two aspects-the global goal and the specific goal. In the third part, through the first two parts, it explores how to cultivate students’ reading ability in new period from four aspects.Through comparing the two curriculum standards, we find that the curriculum of 2011 stresses the importance of students’ ability of thinking and emotional experience. And it also puts forward the cultivation of reading ability of non continuum text, keeping pace with the times, which becomes the highlight of curriculum standard of 2011. It provides the direction and guidance for Chinese reading ability in the new period, starting a new way for Chinese teaching and exploring the new world for Chinese teaching.
