Textbooks of one subject are edited by the requirements of the teaching programme and the analysis of teaching goals, content areas and teaching tasks. What’s more, textbooks are also the gist for teachers’ teaching and students’ learning.In a period of time, the textbooks represent the mainstream sosial values and the accepted social values.During the period of the Republic of China, with the establishment of female schools, female textbooks came out. In 1912, The Commercial Press published Revised Version of Women’s textbooks under the prevailing “new women” thought. Besides, in 1914 Yuan Shih-kai looted the regime. Then under the retro thought, zhong hua Book Company published The Chinese Version of Women’s Textbooks. These two sets of textbooks differ from the former textbooks greatly. They not only show the image of traditional cultural female, but also represent the image of new cultural female. In addition, influenced by feminist thought, “new women” not only walk outside their homes and accept education but also take an active part in the society including medicine, politics, military affairs and so on compared with traditional women.It is very progressive on the role type and quantity. However, because of the limit of the times and the effects of immature female thought, female textbook is still under the male-dominated thought. It is an important problem that raising a claim to women according to the male standard which still needs solving by modern society. Female textbooks promote the awakening of woman and the development of the female thought. Therefore, female textbooks still have functions of reference for modern textbooks.
