Tradition And Modern Game: A Study On The Changes Of Dong Nationality 's Marriage Custom In

Xiaohuang Village is located in the northeast of Congjiang County, Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province. It is a typical village of Dong, which preserves complete traditional culture. Since the 1980s, with the further development of China’s reform and opening up and social transformation, Xiaohuang’s social culture has changed a lot. Marriage customs inevitably experiences the impact of foreign culture, but at the same time shows a strong vitality of the tradition.By taking cultural change as the research perspective and applying relevant theories and methods, this paper analyses the marriage transformation and its reason of Xiaohuang village, attempts to summarize the process and characteristics of marriage transformation, and then discusses the survival and development of Dong marriage culture in the context of modernization.In addition to the introduction and epilogue, the paper consists of four chapters. The first chapter is Xiaohuang Village Images, which is an overview of natural and social space of Xiaohuang village, and a brief description of its spatial variation. The second to the fourth chapter elaborates and analyzes the specific phenomenon of Xiaohuang marriage customs and its transformation. Chapter II illuminates the features and changes of Xiaohuang’s intermarriage circle through analyzing the natural and social space of it and relationships of culture and society which behinds marriage customs.By description of marriage gift exchange of Xiaohang village, Chapter III elaborates the particularity of marriage payment and its changes, cultural interpretation and cause analysis. Then, according to comparisons of the making of marriage and divorce diachronically and synchronically, the fourth chapter explores the transformation of traditional marriage customs of Xiaohuang village.My basic conclusion of the paper is that the traditional marriage transformation of Xiaohuang village is a historical necessity but still shows a strong vitality of the tradition, which has a great relationship with the local special geographical location and cultural background. In a modern context, Xiaohuang traditional marriage transformation faces with a game relationship of "strong tradition and modern integration". I believe that Xiaohuang traditional marriage customs can only develop orderly while retaining the ethnic traditional culture at the same time by right guidance and regulation of the combination of the actual situation of the local ethnic community.
