Infertile Patients’ Personal Modernity And Quality Of Marriage

Objectives: In today’s era,infertility has become an important problem troubling many families and an important cause of disharmony and unhappiness in marriage and family,as can be seen from the ubiquitous small advertisements and the large number of terms in search engines.At home and abroad have been a number of studies have shown that marital quality of infertile patients was significantly associated with their coping styles.This study attempts to include personal tradition-modernity and Dark Triad into research,investigate their relationship with the infertile patients’ marital quality,aims to verify whether coping style plays an intermediary role in the influence of personal tradition-modernity on the subjective feelings of marriage and whether Dark Triad plays a moderating role in the influence of individual tradition-modernity on subjective feelings of marriage,and whether there are significant differences in these variables between infertile couples and non-infertile couples.Methods: To explore the relationship among personal tradition-modernity,coping styles,Dark Triad and marital quality,four scales were used as measurement tool to do research among 102 infertile patients and 134 non-infertile married subjects,such as Chinese Psychological Traditionality and Modernity Scale(Lite Version),trait coping style questionnaire,Dirty Dozen and marriage percetion scale.Data uses descriptive statistics,independent sample t-test,analysis of variance,Pearson correlation analysis and regression analysis for statistical analysis.Results: Data analysis results show:(1)The scores of infertile patients’ personal modernity has a significant difference at different educational backgrounds,higher educated individuals have higher level of personal modernity;the level of Dark Triad has a significant difference at gender,the level of men’s Dark Triad and machiavellianism and narcissism are significantly higher than women;and subjective feelings of marriage have a significant difference at different present address,the scores of people who live in city’s subjective feelings of marriage and couple interflow and family relationship are significantly higher than people who live in country;there is only one significant difference in the factor of couple confict between infertile individuals and non-infertile individuals,and the scores of infertile individuals are significantly higher than non-infertile individuals.(2)There is a significant positive correlation between the level of infertile patients’ personal modernity and positive coping style and the subjective feelings of marriage;and there is a significant negative correlation between Dark Triad and the subjective feelings of marriage.(3)Positive coping style has a partially mediate role between infertile patients’ personal modernity and the subjective feelings of marriage(β=0.15,p<0.01,95%CI[0.05,0.27]).(4)Dark Triad has a moderating effect between infertile patients’ personal modernity and the subjective feelings of marriage(β=0.17,p<0.05).Conclusion: Infertile patients’ personal modernity not only directly affects the marital quality,but also indirectly affects the marital quality through positive coping styles.Dark triad has a moderating effect between infertile patients’ personal modernity and the marital quality.
