Art learning tends to start with the most basic art elements, such as color, line,texture, and so on. Through a gradual process, we can achieve the purpose of art creation. However, children’s painting has its own inherent logic and expression,reflecting the characteristics of children’s unique emotional and imagination.Therefore, how to guide the children’s painting, is becoming a common concern of kindergarten teachers and parents. This study mainly discusses on color teaching theme of art education of preschool children. For today’s art activities in kindergarten on color teaching present situation and the existence question, we refer to the idea and practice of High/Scope Visual Art Education, introduce a new art teaching method----The-in-depth-approach, exploring a set of design and implement. We also evaluate the effectiveness of the activities and the implementation which based on the The-in-depth-approach of color. This method uses artistic medium as the core, and it has four stages: preliminary, enrichment, production and reflection. This method emphasizes that we should guide the children to experience deeply in four stages and have activities of creation and appreciation, so as to achieve the development of children’s artistic sensibility and artistic expression.This study is divided into two research. In the first research, the author mainly uses the questionnaire survey method to learn the basic situation of the kindergarten color teaching, found teachers are lack of scientific color teaching methods, as well as the corresponding support strategies. And on this basis, in the second research, with52 children in S Kindergarten of Shanghai as the object of intervention, we use the education experiment and works analysis as the main methods. We examine the application of The-in-depth-approach in color teaching, and have a research and analysis to the effectiveness of the art activities’ implementation which based on method of The-in-depth-approach of color. The research and analysis are based on qualitative and quantitative. Finally, we get the results as follows:First: Teachers are lack of scientific color teaching methods.Second: 4-5 years old children can use a variety of colors to decorate the picture.They begin to mix the use of realistic and non realistic color, and in some ways the girl’s sense of color is developing rapidly than the boy’s.Third: Color art activities based on The-in-depth-approach can effectively improve the color performance of 4-5 years old children:(1) The-in-depth-approach can improve the child’s interest of color.(2) The-in-depth-approach can improve the child’s color sensitive and perception.(3) The-in-depth-approach can improve the child’s color matching ability.(4) The-in-depth-approach can improve the child using the color to express their emotions.Based on this, we can put forward suggestions.First, For color teaching : To create a good teaching environment, we should follow the law of the psychological development of children’s paintings and the law of teaching, and chose the effective and appropriate methods of color teaching.Second, For The-in-depth-approach: To create a spacious, opended art area,provide rich material and enough time, teachers support and guide the children to explore the art media in the four stages continuously and deeply.
