Since functional strength training was introduced into China, the theory of "power chain" has aroused great influence, and it becomes the, research object of the scholars. Nevertheless, study on the functional strength training is still in the primary stage. Also the application in long jump is less and less. Therefore, in order to make more clear understanding of the new training ideas, related concepts and theories of functional strength training are integrated and analyzed in this paper by consulting a lot of literature, experts interviews related in physical training and long jump training.And combined with the long jump training practice, the effect of functional strength training in long jump athlete is observed.An experiment that makes a comparison between the functional strength training and traditional strength training is made to analyze the results and draw the corresponding conclusion in this paper using the experimental method as the main method. The Conclusion as follows:Firstly, the strength training idea of the functional strength training and the traditional strength training exists some differences. The traditional strength training aims to improve the maximum strength, which then improve the special strength of corresponding sports such like the explosive force, strength endurance and so on. The functional strength training is more focused on the characteristics of sports events,which improve the overall strength by the enhance of the stability,the balance ability,the smoothness of the operation mode of skilled, kinematic chain, focusing on strength exercises integrity and non-multi-joint exercises under steady state.Secondly, in the view of the increase rate of the special ability in the experimental group and control group before and after the experiment, the training effect of functional strength training is better than traditional strength training.Thirdly, The functional strength training concept puts forward on the basis of the traditional strength training, which not only enrich the means of strength training, also provides another strength training ways to improve the competitive ability, enrich the strength training system and, promote the diversification of training means.There is a great difference between the two training ideas, but these differences also form the complementarity between them.
