Hong Zongli is a contemporary famous Chinese educator who owns multiple identities, such as Chinese teaching reformer and editor of textbooks. His career of Chinese literature and language education realized three leaps, that is, from teaching practice to theoretical research, from theoretical research to the reform of teaching materials, and from the reform to researches on mother language. He has been named as national model worker in educational system and the most influential individual in the past 60 years of New China. Conducting research on Hong Zongli’s education thought has vital significance in a series of aspects: the theory construction of Chinese literature and language education, the instruction for the education and teaching practice, etc. Literature survey, historical research and comparative research methods and other educational research methods are applied in this paper to study Hong Zongli’s Chinese education thoughts in this paper. The body of this paper is divided into three chapters.The first chapter is an introduction to the background of the forming of Hong Zongli’s educational thought on Chinese literature and language. The content of this part is discussed from three aspects:the society and environment he lives in, the development of Chinese subject and his own education and practice. His theory of the Chinese literature and language education is the result of the interaction between external objective environment and internal s ubjective factors, which has protrudent individulity and features of the time.The second chapter is about the content of Hong Zongli’s educational thought on Chinese literature and language. This part is discussed in a deep and comprehensive way from the perspective of Hong Zongli’s views on Chinese courses, teaching of the subject, textbooks of Chinese literature and language, and how to be a Chinese teacher. About his views on Chinese courses, the paper discourses his viewpoints and attitude toward the essence and intention of Chinese courses. About his teaching views, the paper puts emphasis on his classic "Five Saying" Chinese education viewpoints and "Double Leading-in" teaching method to discuss concretely in Chinese teaching principles, methods and reforms; About his views on textbooks, taking the "Combination" in the principle of "units combination, overall training" as core, this paper discusses this part in detail from the perspective of four systems: arrangement, structure, content and value; The last part in this chapter is his views on how to be a Chinese teacher, which mainly discusses his requirements and suggestions of the development of Chinese literature and language teachers. This chapter is the main body and core content of the paper, and it demonstrates the overall view of Hong Zongli’s educational views in a multi-angle and all-dimentional way.Chapter Three discusses the realistic significance of Hong Zongli’s Chinese education thought. This part states realistic significance and precious value of his education thought from two aspects:the construction significance his thought exerted on Chinese education theories, and the instruction significance his thought exerted on Chinese education practice. The second aspect here echoes the content of Chapter Two, digging the practical values of Hong Zongli in classroom teaching, teaching reforms, and textbook editing, etc..This paper tries to make an overall, systematic and deep research on Hong Zongli’s Chinese education thought to display the panorama of his education thought, establish scientific system of his education thought, and discover the precious value of his thought, hoping to enlighten Chinese teaching and propel the cause of Chinese literature and language education.
