Cultivating independent learning ability is one of significant projects of education research today. To adapt to high-speed development of modern society, cultivating students’ independent learning ability must be the prime task in school education. However, relatively lagging economic. Culture and concept in Yi regions, cultivating independent learning ability is thought important but never implemented there. Thus, it is of great urgency and necessity to find strategies to cultivate independent learning ability of the fresh students of high middle school in Yi regions. This paper is aiming at giving different teaching strategies for specific students and applying them to practical teaching after systematically study existing independent learning theories and Physics teaching theories so that independent learning ability, which will be a solid foundation for students’ study, is cultivated.In order to prove the relationship between independent learning ability and teaching results, documentary method is used to study operationalism, humanism and other basic theories and questionnaire method is used to investigate the situation of the fresh students’ independent learning ability owning as a pretest. According to the pretest, the fresh students of high middle school in Yi regions are lack of strategies for learning physics. They hardly raise a question in class and participate in class discussions. When they face difficulties in physics learning, depending on teachers or passive learning are what they usually do but not solve problems independently. In order to find the relationship between independent learning ability and teaching results with experimental method, two class, experimental class and contrastive class, in Wu ding No.1 high school are chosen as experimental subjects. Different teaching strategies, including cultivating their interests, question-raising ability and experiment ability; teaching them to do self-examination, summarize and use varieties of evaluation methods; setting corresponding homework for different students and using wrong topic book; classroom teaching, to cultivate independent learning ability. At the same time, lecture teaching method will be the only way used to teach students in the contrastive class. After a term, the improvement of students’ independent learning ability is investigated as a posttest. As the results of the survey, students in experimental class show more interests in studying. Besides, they have stronger sense of question-raising and teamwork spirit. That is to say, students in experimental class have had better independent learning ability. Furthermore, based on statistics method, statistics of the grades for three exams of students in experimental class and contrastive class during experimental period is given by statistics software SPSS. The discreteness of same class and the conspicuousness of different classes are also analyzed. By comparing the grades from experimental class and contrastive class, the answer to the question whether the strategy of cultivating independent learning ability makes remarkable difference to improve students’ grades is given.After teaching for a year, it is clearly proved that the strategy of cultivating independent learning ability really helps improve students’ independent learning ability,so that students in experimental class get better grades.
