In view of problems existing in senic r schools?English teaching; such as teachers and students have been spending much time with a few achievements, and quite a few teachers are using such teaching methods as are not suitable to new teaching material. The author makes an analyse comparing Senior English for China (SEFC) with tradi- tional teaching materiel and induces the different guiding ideology and teaching demands between them. The sharp characteristics are also drawn out. At the same time, the paper inquires into the factors, which prevent teachers from accomplishing teaching thoughts and aims of SEFC. We should put emphasis on dealing with the relation between subject and dominant in English teaching, background for English study and restricting factors. Therefore, teaching by different levels is put forward. For the purpose of ascertaining the result of this pedagogy, the author makes an experimental study in Grade one in Peng Zhou Middle School. The students are classified into three levels-A.B.C. according to their English achievement. After one year抯 experiment. Its result shows that the pedagogy can improve students? English studying condition heighten their interest in English and can develop their English abilities. You can see the followings: First, it can make the top students and less advanced ones improve their listening capacities, but not the intermediate .Second, It is effective in strengthening students?rudimentary knowledge and it is most obviously seen on student of intermediate and less advanced levels. Third, it can train the students?reading and writing abilities, especially the top and interme- 3 diate ones. Fourth, it can get the students to raise communication level of their own. the study proves that teaching by different levels is an effective way to reach SEFC teaching aims. It makes the principle-teach students in accordance with their aptitude, which is the cream of thoughts of education, used and developed in English teaching. On the other hand, it also proves that the content and structure of SEFC should be further adjusted, especially the reading parts so that it can be more fit for our students who have individual differences in English study. Teaching by different levels is highly valued by most of the students in the experimental group.
