Education must be modernized so as to keep up with the development of today抯 changing world. Multimedia CAL is counted as an effective approach to modern education. How to use multimedia computers in class is now causing us considerable concern.Based on the principle of multimedia CAL, the author presents nine indices to evaluate CAl in class. Theses indices, obtained through questionnaires among students, illustrate quantitatively changes of teaching effects which have taken place owing to the use of Multimedia CAL in class. Along together with the analyses of the students?academic records for comparison and contrast from the class, these indices could be instrumental in evaluating the practical effect of multimedia CAL in all.The results are:1.Multimedia CAT conspicuously exceeds conventional teaching in such aspects as arousing interest of students, presenting more perceivable teaching, broadening students?horizon of knowledge and raising the efficiency of teaching.2.Multimedia CAL is a little bit superiors to conventional teaching in the aspects like comprehensive effect, arousing the thinking of students, helping them to understand difficult points, drawing their attention to their class.3.For the mastery of key points, Multimedia CAT is slightly less effective then conventional teaching.4.On the whole, Multimedia CAL is at least even with conventional teaching, except for its better effect on those inferior students.
