Deng Xiaoping's building socialism with Chinese characteristics is a complete and systematic theory, in which the application of socialist modernization in China has been highly summarized and synthesized by him. Deng Xiaoping's thoughts on Ideological and Political education, as an organic component, based on the Chinese actuality of socialist construction and those new problems and new situations arising in the process of socialist modernization in China, comes to be the guide creed for all the established Ideological and Political education tasks. The formation of Deng's thoughts on Ideological and Political education has its profound social root. The exploration into the applications of socialist construction in China has founded the specific historical conditions for Deng's thoughts on Ideological and Political education.Deng's thoughts on Ideological and Political education have its typical characteristics. It can be embodied in the following aspects such as distinct era, outstanding practicality, scientific creativity and Materialistic Dialectics etc. Deng' thoughts on Ideological and Political education has its vital theoretical and practical meaning insocialist modernization construction in China. It can be a principal access to inspiring and uniting nation-wide people; a major assurance of fulfilling our Party's tasks in the new era; a powerful ideological weapon against peaceful evolution. Deng's thoughts on Ideological and Political education pithily expound such details as principles, contents and approaches involving in the Ideological and Political education. In the aspect of principles, Deng proposes the ideas of "We must address ourselves to the problem of both material and spiritual civilizations" , " being practical and realistic" , "linking theory with practice" , "combining ideological and political education with materialistic benefits" , "combining ideological and political education with solution to practical problems" , as well as "mass" . In its contents, Deng stresses Marxist basic theories education; Communist ideal conviction education; the fundamental education on "one central task, two basic points" ; patriotism, collectivism, socialism and morality education; and the education on socialist democratic law systems and disciplines, bitter enterpreneurialism, worship for science and the opposition to superstitions. As for its approaches, he emphasizes the education on criticism and self-criticism,positive leading, optimizing educational environment, the importance of practice and reasonable arrangement, setting a good example.Owing to the multi-dimension values out of the framework of market economic structure, the misleading from mass media and the moral concept left behinds the current situation, the so-called "downhill and slump" situation can be seen in the current school moral education in China. Thus it is of critical value to probe into Deng's thoughts on Ideological and Political education in order to guide school moral education reform in China. The current school moral education in China should aim at fully developing the role of school moral education in socialist modernization construction; perfecting the training targets on school moral education, fostering socialist "the new generation of people with lofty ideal, moral integrity, good education and a strong sense of discipline " ; enriching the contents of school moral education; serving to the socialist modernization construction; innovating the approaches of school moral education; pursuing the feasibility of school moral education.
