As one of main contents of comprehensive practical activities in common high school, research study has been listed in the curricula as a required course. Though it has been several years from the concept of research study was put forward first, wide attention has been paid to it in the educational field. Research study is a learning activity in which students choose and set the research topic from the natural phenomena, social phenomena and the real lives under the instructions of teachers, and in which they obtain, apply knowledge and solve problems through various channels, development of research study can help students out of purely accepting knowledge as the main style of study, and foster their good study attitudes and study strategies, and their innovative spirits and practical abilities.High school geography is a subject of strongly comprehensive and practical knowledge, which suits to research study well, and the geography course currucila also need research study, therefore, it is urgent to prompt research study. The geography research study ought to be of the characteristics of sufficient opening, thorough exploration and abundant practice, and of the theoretical foundations of pedagogy and psychology as the instructions at the same time. The target of the geography research study, primarily the target of experience, emphasizes the study process of students, the student participation directly and experience personally. Therefore, combining with the contents and practice that can be proceeded in high school geography teaching, the general mode, cooperative mode, discoverable mode, applying mode and opening mede have been constructed, and illustrated by the active example of "the changes andcauses of the phase".In order to guarantee the progress of research study smooth, in the process we should pay attention not to step into the mistakes, especially the confussion with discovery study mutually, emphasis of process while ignorance of result, and the predominant effect of teachers. In addition some beneficial things should be done in building better study environment, training teachers to change ideas, designing study activities in practice and using flexibly every kind of study method, etc.Conbining the meaning and characteristics of research study, the thesis analyzes the theoretical foundation of the research study, and constructs several research study modes whick is widely suitable for use in research study contents which can be proceeded in geography, meanwhile, dialectically analyzes deviation that can be easily found in research study process, puts forward the measures that guarantees that research study can be smoothly carried out, provides the theoretical and practical basis of research study for numerous high school geography teachers who do research study.
