China is a country consists of 56 nationalities, 55 of which are minority nationalities, holding a total population well over 100-million. The practice of Chinese minority education urgently requires the guide of minority pedagogic theories, on the other hand, this requirement creates a vast space of development for the pedagogy study.The advancement of Chinese minority education and its system study was first seen in the late 1980's and has been developing for more than two decades. Researchers and people correlated with the field of minority education are concerned about certain issues: In what degree has this study developed so far? What theoretical level has the study reached? What is the composition of the researching group? Are there any relevant studies and what are their relations? Are there any remaining problems to be solved? What is the potentiality for its development?With the same concern, the present author accomplished this thesis in an effort to work out the answers to these questions by studying the contemporary researching documents about the minority education in the mainland of China, classifying them into two categories of periodicals and treatises so that metrology rules can be applied for classifications and statistical research, combining both quantitative and qualitative ways to analyze the results, especially from the quantitative point of view.This thesis is also a general review of the contemporary minority education research in the mainland of China, discusses its achievements and problems, and then tries to find out its general rules and troubleshooting methods.This thesis is made up with the following four parts:Part I Introduction. In this part the author introduces the present condition of Chinese minority education, briefs the main content of the thesis, explains the reason why to choose such a subject, and tells the objective and significance of such subject in detail.Part II General Statement of Studying Object, Content, Procedureand Method. The studying objects are the contemporary researching documents about the minority education in the mainland of China. It is necessary to make clear the definition of minority education first in order to judge the proper range and objects to study, in other words, is to judge which documents are good for study and which are not, which documents are core works and which are relevant works. After that, put proper objects into three categories, the periodical thesis, the composing and the others, summarize and evaluate these documents, then take samples depends upon study requirements, and finally calculate and analyze the objects from various angles of content, method of study, researcher and quoted passages. Because the studying objects of this thesis are documents, and the way of study is based upon documentary metrology rules, the following research methods are applied: documentary metrology, documentary, quantitative & qualitative study, and comparative study.Part III Classification, Statistics and Analysis. In this part the author makes detailed classification, statistics and analysis of the selected documents from various angles of content, method of study, researcher and quoted passages with the methods as introduced in Part II. And in the ending of this part makes a brief summary of the minority education research achievements in the recent 10 years in three parts: composing, governmental programs and studies, and institutional investigation and research results in China and overseas.Part IV Development Trend, Problems and Solution of Minority Education Research. Based upon the research results in Part HI, the author summarizes in this part the development trend of the minority education research theories and methods, discusses problems existed in the research and suggests countermeasures and solutions.
