This dissertation issues some difficulties confronted by United Statesat the beginning. From these points, the dissertation changes the topic to the standardsof teacher education, and proves the significance of the dissertation. The dissertationexplains and defines relationship between NBPTS and NCATE. After that, thisdissertation puts related references, the structure of the dissertation, the researchmethodology, the goal of dissertation and the limitations and the shortcomings of thedissertation. In the first chapter, the dissertation retrospects the history of reform ofteacher education in United States and depicts the features of contemporary societythat influenced reforms of teacher education. The dissertation focuses on the textsissued by NBPTS in the second chapter, and those issued by NCATE in the thirdchapter, which are the two most important teacher education organizations in UnitedStates. Based upon the texts of chapter two and three, the dissertation analyses thestandards put by NBPTS and NCATE and identifies some new trends compared withformer standards in chapter four. Then the dissertation analyses the goal of thesetrends in the lights of the great changes, features and background of contemporarysociety. Also the dissertation tries to establish the cooperation between NBPTS andNCATE. Meanwhile, the dissertation explains and differentiates two important ideas:teacher professionalization and teacher professional development, pointing out thesignificance of these two ideas in United States. In the end of chapter four, problemsexisting in these two standards are put and analyzed. In the last chapter, thedissertation illustrates the development of teacher education in China and theexecution facts of teacher education standards, and tries to get some experience fromUnited States teacher education reforms. In last, the dissertation draws conclusionsfrom NBPTS and NCATE.
