Since the opening-up policy, higher education in China has developed tremendously. Higher education tends to be increasingly modernized, popularized, industrialized, which leads to the formation of diversity of contemporary Chinese higher education. Among them the privately-run higher education develops new styles and methods of its own, taking the lead in the reform and development of Chinese education, which has caught the attention of society and also constituted an important education theory and some realistic problems during the course of education reform and development.Guided by the Marxist theory of education, this thesis closely combines with the development practice of Chinese higher education, analyzes systematically and looks into some of the issues of privately-owned higher education development. This thesis defines the conception, characteristics of privately-owned higher education, expounds its basic module, pattern, function and makes some comments on some viewpoints and some schools of educational theories. By reviewing the process and development trend of privately-owned higher education the thesis sums up and summarizes its achievements and experience and also points out the defect factors attributing to its future development. The thesis also makes comparison between ours and the privately-run higher education of the United States and Japan. The thesis probes into the development policy of privately-run higher education, advocating adhering to socialist law and principles, accelerating the normalization of law in performing education, strengthening the supervision and control of government over the its management from macroscopic scope, setting up favorable educational systems, building up preferable internal development system of privately-owned higher education. On the premise of deepening education reform, state-owned universities and colleges and colleges run by the local people cooperates and reacts to each other, pushing our higher education forward both theoretically and practically.
