The main and ultimate aim of English teaching is to cultivate students' communicative competence. How to help students develop communicative competence ? That is a problem every English teacher must tackle. The study was conducted to argue that Whole Language Approach is an effective way to cultivate students' communicative competence ; and demonstrate that the approach is suitable and feasible for English teaching in middle schools in China.The thesis is composed of four parts:The first part describes the research background , the research significance , and the research methods.The second part introduces the concept, theoretical bases and principles of Whole Language Approach .The third part points out the limitations of Whole Language Approach in teaching , and analyzes the suitability and feasibility of application of Whole Language Approach in English teaching in middle schools in China from historical and realistic perspectives.The last part summarizes the main arguments and offers some suggestions for the implementation of Whole Language Approach and further study. |
