Multiculture is one of modern society principal features. In 1920s the word "multiculture" was founded in the West. In the 1950s and 1960s multiculture became social ideological trends. In 1980s there were many sociologists and educationists paid more attention to the relationship between multiculture and education, and the word "multiculture education" was often used at that time. The Chinese textbook used in compulsory education is the important content students study. How do it adapt to the changes in society and culture? If we analyse the culture of the Chinese textbooks, we can supply reference for the textbook research. From the view of multiculture education,the article analyses and statistics the different types of multiculture in order to evaluate the textbooks and try to find out the reasons which have affected the textbooks . The article includes four parts as below:The first part expounds the Chinese textbooks from the view of culture. Textbook is the form of culture expressing and culture is the core of textbook . Both of them are close. In general the relation between the Chinese textbook and culture shows on: the textbook expresses culture, integrates culture, disseminates culture, renews and creates culture.The second part interprets the types of multiculture in the Chinese textbooks. In the article the types of multiculture are based on the view of J.A.Banks , an American educationist in the field of multiculture theory , at the same time , it also thinks about our Chinese textbook character . The types of multiculture in the Chinese textbooks are universal culture, nationality culture, region culture, gender culture, age culture, peer group culture and special group culture.The third part analyses, statistics and compares the multiculture content of the Chinese textbooks. From the result of analysis, we can see the advantages of the textbooks: universal culture is the main proportion in the one grade and two grade of the primary education, which suits to the society development and the need of student's mental. The number of the texts which reflect rural culture, and foreign culture and the Chinese nation spirit has increased. On the other hand, the disadvantages of the textbooks exist: Firstly, the texts show male culture mostly and have obvious gender prejudice. Secondly adult culture occupies a dominant position, and peer group culture is subordinate. Thirdly the Chinese textbooks don't treat with correctly the relation between the Chinese culture and the foreign culture or between the han nationality culture and minority culture. I try to find out the reasons which have affected the Chinese textbooks culture: the tendency of society culture development affects the culture proportion in the textbooks; to some extent the editors don't understand very well the position the textbook in the education system ; the principle of editing textbook and the design of education purpose affect the textbook choosing the culture, and because the People Education Publishing House (PEPH) reflects a certain ideology and has authority position , so it influence the culture changes in the Chinese textbooks.The last part I put forward some questions on further research: sub-culture; the culture direction in the preview hint and exercise; the renew idea of the editor about culture.The article has had a try to research the textbook culture.
