One of the development trends of education is respecting individuation. In order to take the challenge of 21st century, we must cultivate high-quality human resource especially with the creative spirit and creative ability. However, the traditional teaching administration system of general high schools in China, "academic year system", which emphasizes the commonness of education and the uniform framework of curriculum, holds up the development of students' individualities. So we must introduce "credit system", the more flexible teaching administration system into general high schools, in order to develop quality education deeply and give the self-determination of study back to the students. The "general high schools' new curriculum project (experiment)" publicized Ministry of education in March 2003 adds to this thesis practical significance. The project provides this thesis with policy base, which made up a perfect and scientific system of curriculum, especially designed the framework of credit system in general high school. However, how to put the credit system into education practice in general high schools is still a big problem to resolve, which is the focus of this thesis.This thesis is divided into five parts.Credit system, is one kind of teaching administration system, so the first chapter focuses on the conception of two basic teaching administration systems-"academic year system" and "credit system". This chapter analyses the history and the development of the two systems, compares the advantages and disadvantages of the two systems.The second chapter introduces the topic of high schools' credit system. It includes two aspects-analyzing the essence of credit system in high schools through history and reviewing the mode of credit system of high schools in America, Japan and Germany, credit system, year-credit system, grade point system in turn.The third chapter focuses on the re-construction of credit system in general high schools in China. The first aspect explains the new system of curriculum and the credit system made up by "general high schools' new curriculum project (experiment)". The second aspect explores how to practice the credit system in high schools.The forth chapter focuses on demonstration research. The two research cases are Fuzhou Eighth Secondary School and Shanghai Jinyu'an High School. The author explores thecharacteristics, effects and problems of the experiments in credit system in the two high schools.The fifth chapter analyses the relationship between the credit system and the curriculum, the College Entrance Examination, the quality of teachers, the management system, the condition of high schools. The author brings forward practical countermeasure and prospects the foreground of the reform of credit system in high schools in China.
