As the new curriculums of senior high schools come into effect, it provokes debates how to carry out curriculum reform successfully and creatively, the elective course system and credit system in particular. Since 1998, a comprehensive education reform of the elective course system, optional class system and credit system has been conducted in Fuzhou No.8 Middle School, which coincides with the scheme of the new curriculums in senior high schools. By means of case study, the paper elaborates the different stages, the main obstacles and problems of the reform and the solutions to these problems, analyzing the positive results, problems and the causes of failure along with the comprehensive education reform. The results of the research are as follows: the elective course system and credit system are feasible in senior high schools, which will not only have little effect on students' performance but also bring students' individuality and aptitude into full play; as the reform is a long and arduous task, it is essential to lay down new regulations and systems.
