| In recent years, the problem of youth unemployment has become a global concern. To solve the problem, all countries throughout the world have taken different measures. The School-to-Work (STW) reform is one strategy that aims at youth unemployment. This dissertation chooses Australian STW as the research topic, and attempts to present the specific practices of this aspect. The STW reform is carried out around Vocational Education and Training (VET) of post-compulsory education in Australia, through the combined efforts of government, industry and school, in the aim of ensuring the successful transition from school to work. The framework of the dissertation runs as follows:--Chapter 1 explains the background and objectives of STW reform. Afterthe introduction of Australian economy and education system, it elaborates the status quo from four aspects, including national economic development, young people after compulsory education, youth unemployment and youth marginality. Last it proposes the reform objectives.--Chapter 2 focuses on the reform practices from.school to work. It isthe highlight of this dissertation. The government provides funds, establishes various VET management institutes and improves their functions, implements Australia Qualification Framework, introduces training package etc, which are the government reform steps; the Industry participates the reform through establishing development strategy, managing VET, guiding curriculum development, inputting funds, etc. ; Schools also implement the reform through flexible teaching approaches, credit transfer, flexible teaching styles and so on.--Chapter 3 turns its focus to the outcomes, difficulties and trends ofSTW reform. A series of figures show the achievement of STW reform. It analyzes many difficulties faced by the reform and further elaborates the trends of STW reform.--The last chapter is about the implication of Australian reform to China.Based on all the above presentations, analysis, it generalizes five features of the Australian STW. With regards to the China situation, four enlightenments are put forward. |
